MAINE PILOT PROJECT
Supportive Housing for Adults
with Physical Disabilities
Dedicated to the creation of accessible, modern, and community-based affordable housing and self-directed care solutions for adults with physical disabilities.
Partnering with a regional health care system this pilot project will design and build the first of its kind residence in Maine for adults with physical disabilities who wish to live independently. Moreover, socialization and peer support will provide opportunities for improved quality of life.
Fully-accessible residential building conveniently located near transportation, employment, shopping and services. Mixed income residents who will be able to live independently, while managing their own lives with the support of community services.
Residents will be provided community based services to demonstrate that, as a result of supportive housing, frequent hospitalizations and emergency department visits can be substantially reduced.
"Although I’m a full-time wheelchair user, because my spouse is a willing and able caregiver, I enjoy a certain degree of independence. If not for her, I would be relegated to a nursing facility well before my time..."
